Celtics Fall to the Hawks 114-98…Less Than Ideal

The Celtics took perhaps the worst loss of the season tonight. Nothing about this game was
fun to watch, the Celtics just didn’t show up and the score reflects that. Isaiah shot 4 of 21 from the field 1-6 from three for 19 points ending his consecutive 20 point game streak at 43. He also added 7 turnovers. Horford was 3-9 for 6 points and Crowder was 2-9 for 6 points…that is definitely less than ideal from your starters. When the fourth quarter came around I hadn’t given up on this game yet because I thought maybe Isaiah would go absolute wham sauce on the Hawks and do his typical 20 point in the final frame and at least make this interesting down the stretch. I quickly realized I was wrong and watching that horrific fourth quarter felt like I was watching a varsity team beat up on a JV team. I haven’t seen the Celtics play this bad in a while. The worst part about this loss for me is that since the All-Star Break they are now 1-2 and have lost 3 of the last 4. Now I know every team goes through rough stretches and this team has already done this a few times this year, but with the trade deadline come and gone now, it make us fans wonder why no trade was made. Going into the break this team was on fire, winning 11 of 13 and really playing some great basketball. When they made no trade I was somewhat let down because I wanted another star player but I realized what this team was building. Losing to Toronto was somewhat of a smack in the face because they made multiple trades for guys that the Celtics had been rumored to get. This loss tonight, again, feels like a smack in the face. The biggest issue this team is facing is rebounding and it clearly was not addressed at the deadline and the Hawks out rebounded the by Celtics by 15…It’s going to be hard to win games when you are getting out rebounded by that much. Despite all the negativity, I still have a great amount of faith in this team. The lone bright spot about this game tonight what the Rook Jaylen Brown. The kid can play. He shot 6-10 from the field, 2-4 from three for 15 points and 5 rebounds in 26 minutes. I am a firm believer that he is you need to play him 20+ minutes every night. He is going to be a star and he looks better and better every night, especially as his confidence begins to grow. Assuming this little bad stretch is just a little bad stretch, they will be fine. Avery is finally getting healthy and he will help in every aspect of the game. Next up for the boys are the Cavs on Wednesday. Biggest game of the year so far, need to make LeBron piss his pants knowing this team is right on his tail in the East.
