September is an exciting time in the Boston sports world with the Red Sox making their final push for another AL East title, the Patriots looking for their sixth Super Bowl, and the Celtics making blockbuster moves. Unfortunately the boys in black and gold get put on the back burner. The Bruins are quietly trying to build a new young core through the draft all the while keeping vets to make a playoff push. A tough balance that their upper management does not get enough credit for. Mind you nobody is expecting the B’s to hoist another cup this year but they will still be fielding a competitive team who have playoff expectations for this April. With a ton of familiar proven NHL faces returning like Bergeron, Marchand, Krejci, Chara, krug, and tukkaa in net you know the team should be competitive at least. But with positions opening up on this roster the Bruins will be looking for a new wave of young players to step in and hopefully make an impact right away on the team. Here are a few names you should look out for this upcoming season with the B’s.
Yes, most Bruins fans already know who McAvoy is from playing at BU before being drafted and playing in six playoff games last year with the Bruins. This kid is a STUD. There is no two ways about it he will be the best of the upcoming bunch this year with the Bruins. He may have a little ways to go on the defensive side of the game which may make you nervous because he is a defenseman but the way he handles the puck, the way he see’s the ice,and the way he can run a power play at his age is unmatched by any Bruin defenseman we have seen in a long time. He is already a Calder trophy ( rookie of the year) candidate without even taking a shift this season.
Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson
The twenty year old center drafted in the second round of the 2015 draft is someone you may not have heard of but a kid the Bruins have high hopes for this season. Since Ryan spooner has been nothing greater then mediocre over his Bruins tenure I am very excited to have a young center the bruins have drafted and developed themselves. He impressed in development camp and last year he had a cup of coffee with the big club. With the B’s looking to move in a younger direction do not be surprised if you see this kid getting in the mix with the second or third line this season.
The final prospect on the list has not seen any time with the Bruins yet but the young forward from Notre Dame drafted in 2014 is getting a lot of buzz headed into camp. He dazzled last season with an outstanding year at Notre Dame finishing up with 21 goals 31 assists bringing his point total to 52 in 39 games……….is that good you ask? Yeah, thats good. This kid is a pure scorer and you should be excited to see him in the black and gold moving forward.
Just a couple names to keep in your mind going into the 2017-18 season to get you excited and get that hockey itch back because even though we do live in title town and have a lot of other things going on in the sports world the Bruins will be back before you know it.
